After dishing out the duds of 2011, I figured I should be fair and announce my take on the best dressed.
There
have been so many amazing outfits this past year that it was very hard
to choose. But over the course of the year, picking out the best of the
best was actually quite easy mostly because it was really more about the people in the clothes more than the clothes themselves. But I guess that is always the case isn’t it?
#5 Gisele Bundchen
This
serious vixen (and super top model) has nailed it this year while
always looking fresh, on trend, and dressed with class as opposed to
looking like a tramp the way a lot of models her age tend to do. This
look at The Met took my breath away and averted my attention from
the disastrous looks that some people wore to The Met Gala or the Golden
Globes or even the Oscars.
So why
number 5? Giselle is a fabulous model and one of the most powerful in
the business, thing is, as a model, she is told what to wear and in a
way she lacks a personal sense of style.
#4 Christina Ricci
Though
this celeb was kind of on the down-low this past year, the times she
did make an appearance was quite the show stopper. For example her Zac
Posen gown that she wore to The Met Gala was out of this world and was
said by many to be the hottest dress of the glitzy ball.
On
a quick side note Christina Ricci also let a lucky grad wear her 1999
Oscar gown. This is extremely generous on it’s own, BUT, this particular
gown was a Versace Couture piece! price tag? $25,000! Now that’s
Generous!
#3 Daphne Guinness
This
absolutely decadent heiress of the Guinness fortune who is no stranger
to Couture and over the top Ready-to-wear has snagged number 3 and
rightfully so. She wears McQueen like a BOSS! Not to mention she got
ready for The Met Gala, in the Barney’s display windows in front of a
crowd filled with fashion enthusiasts, Guinness admirers, and paparazzi. You know… the ‘norm’ for this vixen.
#2 Florence Welch
She
sings like an enchanted banshee belting out rock sonnets that come from
a very obvious personal place and is really unlike anything in the
market today. Her sound is one thing, but her look… her look is amazing.
Fiery red hair that sits atop a tall lanky body ripe and ready for
couture and Ready-to-wear which she readily dons like the YSL at the Met
Gala or the Chanel she wore while performing at the Chanel Spring 2012
show.
The best look I’ve seen
Florence in this past year was the Givenchy couture look at the
Grammy’s. I honestly don’t know if it is the Givenchy, or the fact that
that massively fashion forward dress was on Florence. Either way she was
nearly number 1 and would have snagged it if it wasn’t for…
#1 Liv Tyler
If I didn’t meet Liv Tyler in person she wouldn’t have made number 1 buuuuut… I did!
Meeting
her shone an incredible light on her personal style and how particular
she is with the pieces she chooses to wear. When I saw her she had her
Chloe Edith bag in organic brown vegetable dyed leather. She paired it
with her choice of skinny jeans and casual jacket but it was so real and
though the red carpet makes every celebrity look like a magnificent
vision, it is the personal style of Liv that makes me really love her
red carpet choices.
My favorite look
on Tyler was the Givenchy Couture dress complete with bird feathers
finishing the hem and precise cutouts filled with mesh. She surprised me
when I saw her on the red carpet in that piece because it wasn’t
originally one of the dresses in that particular Spring 2011 Couture
collection. It was custom made for her. Just another example of that
strong Liv Tyler style shining through. Looking back to her style
choices and seeing her from day to evening, Liv certainly deserves
getting number 1 on my Best Dressed of 2011 list for absolutely owning
her style!
